Self-Paced Courses
What is a self-paced course?
In this style of online class, you have control over when, where, and how fast you want to learn. The course is designed to deliver the content without an instructor. All you need is a computer and an internet connection. You can log in and work at your own pace, whenever you have time.
How do our courses work?
Our courses are free to take, but in order to access the course you will need to create a username and password in our online course delivery system: https://freecourses.smallwatersystemsbc.ca/. From there you can self-enrol in a course and start learning. By registering, your progress in any particular course can be saved, so you can return to a course at a later date. They do not need to be finished in one sitting.
To create an account in our free courses system:
First navigate to https://freecourses.smallwatersystemsbc.ca/login.
Click the ‘Create new account’ button (you may have to scroll down the page a bit to find it).
Fill in the required information, and then click the ‘Create my new account’ button.
You will receive a confirmation message at the email you used to register. You will need to confirm your account from that email before you can access the system. If you don’t see an e-mail from us within 15 minutes, try checking your spam folder.
To reset your password:
Click the ‘Lost Password?’ link under the ‘Login’ button.
You will get an e-mail with instructions to reset your password. Follow those instructions to create a new password for your account. Remember to check your junk folder.
You will need to submit your Certificate of Completion to EOCP in order to receive your CEUs. If you are familiar with our webinars, you will find that the process is the same as receiving CEUs for attending those.
Each course is different and has its own requirements for completion. The requirements to receive the Certificate of Completion will be noted directly under the certificate section on the first page of the course. To find this, open your course, click the ‘Course’ tab under the course title, and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
For the example below, your certificate of completion will be available once the Final Course Exam is completed and passed (a mark of at least 70% is required in this example).
At this time, we do not have the ability to provide on-demand or detailed 24-hour support. However, if you contact us at info@smallwatersystemsbc.ca we will always do our best to help you. We read every email and will get back to you as soon as we are able.
Please e-mail us at info@smallwatersystemsbc.ca with a detailed explanation of the issue (screen shots are very helpful, if possible!) so we can troubleshoot the problem. It may take a few days for us to get back to you, as we are a small team.
These courses–and the Online Help Centre as a whole–have been created for small water system operators in British Columbia, Canada. As such, all the information contained in our website and courses is tailored to those users. This means we’ve taken into consideration the legislation, environmental regulations, and ecological reality of British Columbia when crafting the courses and materials on this site. While there is currently no geographical restriction for user enrolment, we can not guarantee that our information is accurate or relevant to other jurisdictions.
These courses are designed for use without an instructor. When evaluation is required, tests are generally provided in a multiple-choice format and are graded automatically within the system. You will be provided with your mark on completion of your exam. Please note that in order to complete the course, a minimum mark on your exam may be required. However, you may complete the exam as many times as you wish in order to achieve the required passing grade. Please note that EOCP CEUs will only be awarded once per course.
