EOCP Exam Preparation for Small Water Systems
The purpose of this course is to help you prepare for your Environmental Operator Certification Program (EOCP) small water system certification exam. To qualify to write the EOCP certification exam, the EOCP requires you to have completed a small water systems course and have 50 hours of field experience in operating a small water system.
This review course is divided into 12 units. Units 1 through 11 are structured as short answer questions, and cover everything from operations & maintenance to treatment and mathematics. The last unit is a comprehensive multiple choice knowledge test.
Math for Small Water Operators
The purpose of this course is to provide the basic math knowledge small water operators require for daily operations. Covering concepts ranging from order of operations and solving for unknowns, through to solving chemical dosing problems this course is designed to help you build confidence in solving these types of math problems. Each section of the course explains the math concept along with examples and is followed by a quiz for knowledge building.
The goal of this course is to build confidence in the math required to support your small water system.
Monitoring Your Water System and Water Quality

In this course you will learn about how to monitor drinking water infrastructure and water quality in order to keep your water system in good working order and quickly identify and correct problems when they arise. You will learn how to take water samples and interpret those results as a key activity in understanding the daily performance of your overall system. We will also discuss best practices and how monitoring fulfills legislative requirements for operations and management of a small water system.
At the end of this course you will know how to create and put into practice a basic Water Quality Monitoring Plan.
Prepare Your Emergency Response & Contingency Plan
This course will assist small water systems in British Columbia in developing an Emergency Response & Contingency Plan (ERCP). Knowing what to do, who to contact, and how to communicate helps to prevent unnecessary complications that can prolong outages, create additional expenses and lead to illnesses. Developing an ERCP will provide you with a well thought out set of procedures to follow in the event of an emergency or Abnormal Operational Circumstance (AOC). Identifying corrective actions and procedures will help you to respond quickly to a drinking water emergency.
The goal of this course is to guide you through the process of developing a draft ERCP that satisfies the requirements of the BC DWPA.
