Groundwater and Wells Legislation: An Overview for Well Owners and Well Operators

Laurie will be presenting a brief overview of groundwater, wells and the legislation that protects them.  She will also explain how aquifers affect the availability of water than can be pumped from a well.  Water quantity and water quality is not only a reflection of the natural environment but also of well construction, maintenance, and operation.  This presentation will provide an overview of the legislation regulating well construction, and tips on well maintenance and well operation.

Laurie Lyons is a Groundwater Protection Officer with the Province’s Ministry of Forests, South Area Groundwater Science Program, based in Kamloops. Laurie Lyons has 17 years experience as a Groundwater Protection Officer inspecting groundwater wells, providing advice, and educating well owners and operators on the importance of good well maintenance and well operation to protect the groundwater resource and provide a safe drinking water supply.
